Remembering the Past Australia

Roy Acuff's "Open House" - Part 2

“Open House” was the first Australian-produced TV show made for overseas.

In 1959 Roy Acuff “The King of Country Music” toured Australia with the “Grand Ole’ Opry” company which had started 29 years earlier in America as a commercial radio show in Nashville, Tennessee. Featuring both American and Australian performers “Open House” was produced by Marketing Services (Aust.) and TCN-9 Sydney while Roy Acuff was on tour. The standard of the show and the recording is said to have impressed many in the American industry and the series was sold to a syndicate in Nashville for an undisclosed figure.

Broadcast in Australia in March 1960, if you like old country music and ballads you will enjoy this two-part series. Watch Part 1.
