About Remembering the Past Australia

Remembering the Past Australia draws on early newspapers, books and archives, to share these stories from long ago.  Here you will find an eclectic collection of articles, pictures, yarns, tales, recipes, and more, reproduced to shine a light on the generations that have gone before us.

This site does not intend to replace the historical and intrinsic value of the original picture. Our purpose is to encourage interest in history by presenting a different perspective of the past.

A Reimagining

Photo Colourisation

In an increasingly complex modern world, an age of fast information and startling clear images that pop off our screens, many pictures from the past now lay forgotten, gathering dust in old shoeboxes or slowly fading away in the pages of old books.

Although the idea is simple, enhanced, colourised and reimagined images have a surprisingly emotional effect, allowing people to relate to them easier, and this makes a historical picture a whole lot more powerful.
