Ingredients

  • 10 lbs. (4.5 kgs) of double refined caustic soda
  • 4 1/2 galls (17 litres) of water
  • 75 lbs. (34 kgs) of clean fat

Instructions

1. Put the caustic soad in the water and add the fat. Boil.

2. To make caustic soap add 1 lb. of resin.

Ingredients

  • 20 lbs. (9 kgs) clean grease
  • 17 lbs. (7.7 kgs) white potash
  • 1 lb. (453 gms) of borax
  • 1 lb. (453 gms) of resin

Instructions

    1. Boil the grease and pour hot on the potash.

    2. Dissolve the borax and resin in two buckets of hot water.

    3. Pour on top of grease, stir, and let stand till next day.

Notes

  • Makes a 36 gall. (136 litre) cask.
